Sibling Road trip | Ardunt | 6

"Sis." I said after getting my breath back.

"Yes?" she asked.

"What shall we do about our situation."

"I really do not want to call dad."

"Me either, and there is nothing in this town." I said. "What do you think about trying to sell the car?" I rushed the question out there knowing it was like letting go of part of our dream.

She looked at me with a frown.

"We could hop a bus then and at least get to where we want to go." I ventured.

"That is true." she said.

We got back into the car and headed back to the town. As we were driving my sister put her hand on my thigh, "I love you." she said.

I gripped her hand in mine and squeezed, "I love you too."

Pulling into the filling station I got out and left my sister sitting there while I went in to haggle.

"Hey there." I said reading the guys name tag, "Roger."

""Yup." he said looking at me with dull eyes.

"See that car over there?" I asked pointing to the car.

"Yup."

"I would like to sell it. How much would you pay for a car as nice as that one?"

He scratched his chin and walked over to the car, started it, listened to it and then looked my sister over. "500." he said flatly.

"Damn dude." I erupted, this car is worth more than that!

"Maybe."

The moment stretched out long between us.

"Maybe, I could buy your bus passes for you too along with that 500." he finally said.

"We need to talk it over." I said to him angrily.

"Yup."

He sauntered off and left us sitting in the car.

"That is robbery." I said to my sister.

"What are our options?" she asked.

"Guess you are right and I want to get out of here." I said.

"Yup." she said imitating Roger.

I laughed and got out of the car and walked over to Roger. "Alright, I think you are really scalping us, but we will sell it to you for the tickets and 500."

"Yup." he said with a smirk as he pulled out a wad of twenties and counted out the money. "Bus will pick you up at the diner." Then he counted out another 200.

We walked over to the Diner and sat outside, hand in hand thinking about resuming our trip.

"Wall we have is each other now." I said squeezing her hand in mine.

She smiled at me and kissed my cheek as we waited for the bus to arrive.
