The $500 that Mackenna had left her father’s house with was not enough to sustain her for very long. To make things worse, her father ordered the cab he called for to drop her off in the same neighborhood where she had gotten into the fight with the girl just two years prior. After a ride of almost an hour, the cab stopped.

“Okay Missy! Out you get!!!” The cabbie ordered.

“Can you take me home now?” she begged.

“Sorry, this is where I was told to drop you! Now get out!!!” He responded.

“I can’t get out here! I have a history in this place!” She pleaded with the cabbie to take her back home, but he ignored her.

“LISTEN RICH GIRL! I was paid $1000 cash to drop you off in this exact neighborhood, and to not bring you home, or help you out in any way! Now, I don’t want to get mugged or shot because of you, so I’m asking you politely: GET THE FUCK OUT!!!” The cabbie shouted. Mackenna shook her head in defiance and the cabbie turned off the car.

“Alright girlie, I didn’t wanna have to do this the hard way, but your old man warned me about your stubbornness!” With that, he got out and opened the back door. He reached in and grabbed Mackenna by the foot and pulled her out of the cab. He threw her bag at her as she lay on the cold, wet sidewalk. The cabbie quickly got back into his car and took off, running all the red lights.

Mackenna began to cry, but before she could feel sorry for herself, she felt is if she was being watched. Quickly stifling her tears, she got up and dusted herself off. She grabbed her bag as a small crowd began to close in on her. All she saw was a bunch of seedy looking characters that even the most naïve schoolgirl could tell were up to no good. She grabbed her bag and began to walk away from the group, when one of them spoke.

“I think yous in the wrong neighborhood girlie!!!” The sickly-looking man spoke.

“Hehehe!!! Come on girl! Come sit on Santa’s lap!!! HAHAHAHA!!!” A homeless man laughed as he grabbed at Mackenna’s leg. He, like many of the other men in the crowd, was so dirty that she couldn’t tell what race he was. She jumped away from him.

“How sweet! Fresh meat!” Another man cackled as he played with some kind of knife.

Mackenna began to run as fast as she could when she ran square into the biggest black man she had ever seen in her life. He was easily six and a half feet tall and weighed a good three hundred pounds of solid muscle. The force of the collision knocked her down to the sidewalk again.

“Oh shit!” She shouted as he looked down and smiled at her.

“Relax white girl, I mean you no harm! You scum you get back ‘fore you get what’s coming to you. You know I protect everything on this block, and that includes scared little white girls!” The strange man said.

Her savior was wearing a red suit, which surprisingly, looked good on him she thought as he offered her a hand. She took his hand without hesitation. He pulled her to her feet, and then slowly moved down the block. The few members of the crowd not impressed by the man’s size followed them for a bit, but backed off when he drew a pistol from under his jacket.

“Come on MUTHA FUCKAS!!! Take one step, I dare yuh!!! TAKE ONE GOD DAMN STEP!!!” He shouted. No longer interested in the girl, they gave up. The pair moved down the street talking for some time.
