The limo goes quiet as you give everyone except for the evil eye. As the driver pulls away, all you can hear is the slight sound of scared people breathing. Nobody knows what you are about to say, but they all can guess what you are thinking. You are about to open your mouth when Lauren takes your hand and speaks for the group.
“, please don’t be mad at us. We just want to see you happy. And don’t, DON’T be mad at . She had nothing to do with this, except agreeing to go on vacation with us. With you. Melissa is gone and there is no reason for you to not move on with your life.” She finishes.
“Did you set this up?” You ask Lauren. looks kind of dejected. She knew this was a secret, and was really hoping for it to work between you two. As much as you want to be mad at her as well, it isn’t her fault. She barely knows you.
“No. After what happened with you and Melissa, I wanted no part of this. I still feel really bad about what that bitch did to you. I knew what kind of girl she was before I hooked you two up. I only did that because I thought she would settle down after meeting you. But I was wrong. I’m sorry!” She almost starts to cry, but you rub her shoulder.
“It’s okay Lauren.” You say. “But still, you guys shouldn’t have done this, not after I told you I didn’t want to go on the trip. What would have happened if you didn’t get me out of my apartment? Would you have told that she couldn't come?”
“Can I ask a question?” asks before anyone can answer you. “Who’s Melissa?”
So she didn’t know the whole story. You are about to answer when Lauren cuts you off.
“I set up with Melissa two years ago. She was my best friend all through high school and college. We booked this trip about six months ago, when she and were still together. Three months ago, he came home from work one day and saw a trail of clothes on the floor leading their room. He walked in on her and she was with another guy. It turns out she had been cheating on almost the whole time they were together. And it wasn’t with just one guy. She admitted to about five or six. But knowing her, it was probably more like twenty or thirty.” She informs .
“Okay, now I see why he’s mad.” She exclaims. She takes your other hand and just calmly massages your fingers. The feeling is incredible. it sends a chill down your entire body as begins to speak.
“I’m sorry you had to go through that with your ex. I’ve been there before. It sucks. And I can understand if you don’t really want to be here. If you want, when we get to the airport, I’ll grab a taxi and leave. That way you don't feel uncomfortable.” says as she lets go of your hand. Jessica is about to speak up when you interrupt her.
“That won’t be necessary. Everything is already paid for. Eight plane tickets, four hotel rooms, Jet Ski rentals, reservations at restaurants. No point in letting it all go to waste. Besides, it’ll be fun having someone else around for a change. I mean these clowns are gettin’ kinda boring!” You chuckle, which causes to giggle and everyone else to breathe a sigh of relief. |
