You smile instantly when you notice Andi’s blue eyes meeting yours. You are so happy and surprised to see her that you almost don’t notice how cute and alluring she looks in her oversized ashen Ranma ½ shirt and grey boxers…almost. “What can I do for you, Andi?”
She blushes a bit, the look instantly melting your heart. “Um, I hate to bother you again, but do you have a TV I can borrow? Mine’s broken, and I forgot I have to watch this film for film class tomorrow, and I would ask the others, but they’re….busy right now…”
“Of course,” you say, motioning her in. “Sorry about the mess,” you shyly comment, since the only things you have unpacked is your computer, cosmetics, and a few clothes. You point to your small TV that sits on top of an old oak dresser in the room. “What movie are you supposed to watch?” you ask as you turn away from her to slip on a T-shirt.
“Labyrinth. I’ve never seen it.”
“’You’ve never seen Labyrinth?” You ask her as you turn around to face her. She shakes her head no. “I’m not gonna be able to sleep right now, and I have the special edition on DVD. It should have some interesting information if you have to write or talk about the movie later. Would you like to watch it with me?” you find yourself blurting out in an excited blurb. You fight the desire to blush like an idiot and turn away from Andi.
To your surprise, she smiles widely. “Sure, let me just go get my notebook.” As she leaves, you quickly unpack your DVD player and DVD collection. Just as you finish hooking up the DVD player, Andi pokes her head in the room. “It’ll be just a minute, okay?”
“Sure,” you tell her as you place the DVD into the player. You angle the TV so it faces the bed, then sit down by the head of the bed, using a pillow to cushion your back against the hard backboard. In just a few minutes Andi comes in with a large bowl of popcorn and her notebook. A Hello Kitty pencil is tucked behind her left ear. You take the popcorn and move over so she can sit beside you. “I hope you don’t mind sitting like this. I don’t have any other furniture except the bed and dresser, and that came with the room.”
You silently berate yourself for sounding like an idiot, but Andi gives you “that smile.” “It’s okay,” she nods. With that, you start the movie. The two of you watch most of the movie, missing only a few minutes when Andi accidentally tips the bowl a bit and tosses a few pieces in your lap. You pick them up and playfully throw them back at her, starting a popcorn war that goes on for several minutes until the two of you remember why you’re watching the movie in the first place.
Once the movie finishes, Andi makes a few more notes on her notebook, then helps you pick up the popcorn you threw at each other. As you both go for the last piece, your eyes meet momentarily and without thinking you lean forward and kiss her soft pearl-pink lips lightly. When the kiss is broken, realization sets in. “I’m sorry, Andi, I shouldn’t have done that….”
She reaches towards you, touching your cheek softly. “It’s okay,” she whispers before softly and quickly returning your kiss. Then she straightens up, hiding her beet red face from you. “I should go…I have to finish writing this paper…” She stops in the doorway and turns to smile at you. “Thanks for everything, . I really appreciate it.” With that she pulls the door closed behind her.
You find yourself falling asleep that night with a stupid grin on your face…and when you wake up the next morning. Slipping the sweats and t-shirt back on, you pad over to the kitchen, finally suppressing your smile. At least until you see Andi sitting at the table in the same clothes she had on last night and sipping coffee from a Transformers mug. Your eyes meet and you smile again…just as Kelly comes around the corner and catches the moment that passed between you and Andi.
