Ashlyn desperately wanted to be free, but that would mean having someone else watch the video and fall under its curse. She gnawed her lip, trying to decide between remaining a slave and inflicting the same misery on some innocent. She dropped her head as she realized she couldn't do it. She'd have to grit her teeth and suffer through it.
Then the penny dropped. The information she had looked up about the video had also mentioned she was enslaved for seven days. That meant, she hoped, that if she could hole up at home and avoid having to talk to people she'd be able to wait until the curse expired.
Quickly she locked her doors and bolted the windows. She checked her pantry and, thank God, there were enough instant dinners to see her through the week. She was sure to lose her job for not turning up to work, and it would be a boring few days, but she thought she just might be OK.
Then, to her horror, there was a knock on the door. "Ashlyn?" said a male voice.
Ashlyn jumped for fright. She bolted to her bedroom, while trying not to make much noise, and began to wrap her blankets around her head. If she couldn't hear any orders she wouldn't have to obey them. Through the cloth she could just hear some muffled words.
