Frankie sat on her bed, feeling more than a bit guilty about what had happened. Madame Foster saw the open door and walked in.
Foster: What's the matter, dearie? Mac didn't live up to your expectations?
Frankie: Not the time, grandma.
Foster: Sorry. What happened?
Frankie: Mac said he wanted me to kiss him.
Foster: So?
Frankie: On the lips.
Foster: So?
Frankie: It'd be my first!
Foster: So?
Frankie: Are you even listening?
Foster: So? Oh, i mean, of course i am, dearie. So, didja?
Frankie: Kiss him? No!
Foster: Did you sound like that when you told him no?
Frankie: I guess.
Foster: No wonder he was walking down the hall mumbling about 'dumb old non-lip kissing Frankie, with her not-kissing me just 'cuz it's her stupid first one. Kiss, i mean.' Hmm. Y'know, maybe i should've been able to guess what had happened. Guess i should've listened instead of just saying 'so?' to him.
Frankie: Thanks. Priceless advice, as always.
Foster: Oh, don't be like that. Anyway, why didn't you go for it? Are you....*whispering* switching teams?
Frankie: *groan; rolling her eyes* No, grandma.
Foster: So...?
Frankie: He's eight!!
Foster: Is he? In body or in mind?
Frankie: In reality! Timen or not, he's not really 18.
Foster: I may not have seen him this way as long as you, but i can tell you this: he's more of an 18 year old than most.
Frankie: I guess. Wait, what?
Foster: I dunno. Frankie, dear, you just do whatever it is that's in your heart. Listen to it; it'll never steer you wrong.
Frankie: Huh?
Foster: A first kiss is all part of the circle of life. It's a whole new world, but don't dare close your eyes. Metaphorically, don't. Do in real life. And once you have your kiss, oodelally, oodelally, golly, what a day it'll be!
Frankie: You've been watching Disney movies again, haven't you?
Foster: And burning my 'special incense', too!! THE COLORS!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Frankie: *sigh* I wonder what a normal grandmother would say about this.
Foster: Oh, who needs one of them when you got me? Now look. Do you realize that you've just rejected Mac at the most important moment of his life so far?
Frankie: Oh, come on. I'm not that important to him.
Foster: Not you! It would'a been his first kiss too, y'know! Imagine if you had been shot down!
Frankie: I know it hurt him, ok? I don't really need any more guilt about that. But, it's my say too, isn't it?
Foster: Of course, but lemme ask ya this: If not Mac, then who?
Frankie: Huh?
Foster: You don't wanna give Mac an innocent kiss. So, who are you holding out for, Wilt?
Wilt, who was just passing by: What?
Frankie: No one...
Foster: Well?
Frankie: I can't just kiss him because i don't have anyone else to kiss at the moment!
Foster: *sigh* It's times like these i wish i would've hired someone else to care for this place and let you live your life. Things aren't always perfect! Ya think i, or 95% of women have their first kiss with the perfect person?! Heck no! But we pucker up and go for it, because the 'perfect person' ain't there, and this guy is good e-darn-nough!!
Frankie: But....he's eight....
Foster: Oh, lord, girl, age ain't nothin' but a number!
Frankie: Ew!
Foster: If my birth certificate said i was 15, would that make me any less of an old lady?
Frankie: Well, yes.
Foster: Oh yeah, i guess it would. Ah, well, i got nothin'. See ya around! Oh! I do have one more thing! Remember: it's just a freakin' kiss! It's not like he's asking for your cherry!!
Frankie: Bye, grandma!
Madame Foster shuffled out of the room, leaving Frankie with her decision. |
