Dragging Patrolman Thomas into the car, Darius virtually stands on the gas and tears away from where the penetrator stands. Kim cowers in the front seat; the young officer had never seen anything like that. The woman withstood a blast from a shotgun at point blank range and, as if that wasn't odd enough, she had some odd skeleton, almost like a robot.
"What the hell was that?" She demands, voice still trembling in terror.
"A penetrator." Darius replies, slowing a little in the unmarked Ford now that he's on the main street.
"What?"
"A penetrator, a cyborg from the future. The machine has sent it back to convert and prevent the future human resistance from forming." Glancing over, Darius senses Kim's disbelief, "How do you explain the metal face and the shotgun blast, lady?" he adds.
Fair point, thinks Kim. "What do you want with me?" she asks, quietly lowering her hand to her spare sidearm at her ankle. |
