“May I have my gold back, please?” The way the lady was looking at Jennai clearly showed that this was not a request but an order. Unsure how to react the young girl just nodded and dropped the gold coins in the woman’s waiting palm. “Good girl. This time I’ll let you go, but if I ever catch you trying to steal from me, you’ll be punished for both attempts. Is that clear, girl?”
“Yes, milady, I understand.” Answered Jennai. “I’m sorry for this ‘incident’. I assure you it won’t happen again.”
“Excellent. Here.” The lady threw Jennai a coin and the girl caught it instinctively. “Get yourself something to eat, and then go find a job that's a bit more honorable.”
“Y-yes, milady.” Jennai stuttered at this sudden turn of events. She had expected to be arrested and punished for stealing from this elven sorceress. Instead the woman was not only letting her go, but was also giving her an entire gold coin? It was almost too good to be true… unless the woman wanted something in return. But what could she want from Jennai?
As the young thief wondered what could be the reason for the elf’s kindness the woman pointed her palm at Jennai and spoke a short spell. A wave of pleasant warmth passed through the human girl’s body, but no other effects of the spell could be seen or felt.
“Have a nice day.” The sorceress said before going on her way. Jennai watched the woman walk away as she wondered what spell had been cast on her and what to do with the gold coin she had received. |
