High School Hunnies | crono04 | 2

"Hey, Shana. When have I ever said no to that?" I ask, almost surprised she did anything more than just tap me on the shoulder and get in.

Shana smiled and opened the passenger-side door. "Just makin' sure." She got in while I went around to do the same.

She said nothing as I backed out of the school parking lot. I noticed her looking at me a couple times, though. It'd be a short trip to her house, only a few blocks, but it's still cool to hang out with her, if only for a couple minutes.

"What'd I miss while I was out?" I asked.

"Huh? Oh, the lecture? Nothing important. It's stuff you knew already, so don't sweat it."

"That's good."

"Why were you so tired today? You nodded off in Mr. Weinstein's class too. Were you up all night doing something bad?" She smiled, but she was actually kinda right. I'd spent a lot of last night thinking about her, and not in a platonic way. If she knew what had kept me up, she'd probably either get really mad at me, or laugh and say 'it'll never happen'. I hated to lie to my best friend, but in this case, I could let myself slide.

"I was studying for the quarterly math test," I said gazing ahead.

"Oh." She almost sounded disappointed. "Can I ask you something?" Her voice was almost hesitant to say it. The only time i'd ever heard Shana go shy is when what she was going to say could change something drastically.

"Of course. You've asked me a lot of somethings, so one more is fine." My joke only lightened her mood slightly.

"Do you, uh....I mean, y'know..." I glanced over at her. Her face was almost as red as her hair. This must be a hard question for her. "Do you think i'm...pretty?"

She caught me off-guard with that, but, thinking quickly I said...

What did I say?

          'Nah!'

          Yes
