After half an hour, you're head is awash in names, faces and trivial anecdotes as Ellen relives her entire freshman experience through the magic of photography. But she catches your attention when she shows you a photograph of her and a man smooching in some bar. Ellen proudly announces that this is her boyfriend.
Hmm, this complicates matters. Looks like you have competition now.
"Boyfriend? You never mentioned boyfriend" you say, not adding that you probably wouldn't have come all this way to play third wheel with her and some hunk again. You certainly did enough of that in high school.
"Yeah, we're going to the bar tonight. Can you come? You can meet him! We have a cheerleading fundraiser tonight. You should come! I'll have lots of single friends there. Even some from the squad! Where is Amy?" Ellen says all of this without pausing for breath. You're exhausted just listening.
Ellen turns and starts fumbling a text message over her cell phone. You don't recall Ellen being like this.
Well, you don't have anything else to do, so you go to the cheer thing with Ellen. She is too busy with her friends and boyfriend to pay you much attention. Looks like you'll be making your own fun.
