Best Man's Diary | switch76 | 3

Instinctively, I rattled the door desperately trying to get it open. Unsurprisingly it didn't work. I began examining the lock. My military training had taught me how to pick most type of locks given the right tools and enough time. I looked on the tray to see what I could use. There was nothing that looked useful apart from the knife. I picked it up and tried jiggling it in the lock. It was much too big and I knew any further attempt would be useless.

I had to survey my options quickly.

If I stayed where I was, maybe a maid would come by and let me in. However there was also the chance that a group of hotel guests could walk by and catch me. How was I going to explain my situation to them?

I could wander the corridors and look for a chamber maid to help but where to start looking.

My third option was to knock on someone's door and ask them for help. I knew the rest of the wedding party and guests were also staying in the hotel. One of them would let me in and help me. Even if the room belonged to a stranger, perhaps it would be better than getting caught by a group of people out in the open.

Which option to take?
