Internet Love Affair | katiebgood | 3

One Friday night… no different then any other… Liz logged onto her computer after seeing her daughter off to a weekend with her father. Liz and her former husband had been divorced for several years and although they hated the sight of each other, managed to maintain some semblance of decency toward each other when their only daughter was around. Now Liz had the whole house to herself for the next 48 hours.

“Hiya, Beautiful!” the message popped up on the screen.

Liz smiled to herself and replied, “Were you waiting for me?”

“Of course,” came the reply. “I missed you!”

“You are such a liar,” Liz said jokingly. “But, I missed you too.”

“Are you alone?”

“Yes, I saw the little one off just now.”

“Can I call you?”

“Please.”

Liz had enough time to stroll to the kitchen and make herself a drink. She unscrewed the top from the wine bottle and poured a healthy goblet of blood red Merlot. She took a sip just as the phone began to ring.

“Miss me, did ya?” she asked as soon as she put the phone to her ear.

“How’s you know it was me?” the deep masculine voiced asked with a chuckle.

“I know your ring,” she replied with a smile in her voice.

“What are you wearing?” he asked.

“Not a damn thing,” she replied as seductively as she could considering that she was lying through her teeth.

“Now who’s the liar?” he laughed, seeing right through her playful attempt at deception.

“Listen, I need to ask you something,” her tone changed from friendly to serious.

“Sure anything,” he replied, curious as to what was on her mind.

“Susan will be at her father’s for two weeks next month,” Liz timidly began to explain, her voice wavering slightly. “Why don’t you come out and spend some real time with me?”

There was a long pause on the other end of the line.

“Do you think that is a smart idea?” he asked tenderly. Liz had jumped ahead of him and he wasn’t sure exactly how to proceed. He had been careful in his leads with her but now she seemed to be going faster than he anticipated.

“I thought it was,” she sounded disappointed. “I’d really like to see you.”

“I don’t want to cause any problems for you,” he replied, playing to cool.

“It won’t.” she said confidently. “Please come?”

“I’ll see what I can do,” was his simple reply. It was enough for Liz, she squealed happily and the conversation turned away from their meeting. “You still what to know what I am wearing?”

Does her mysterious caller take her up on her offer?
