"Major Kira?!" said Doctor Bashir looking up from the Padd he was reading. Ever since he had first arrived Kira had sensed a mixture of awe and a little apprehension in him whenever they met. He still bore that optimistic enthusiasm and she wondered if hed ever grow out of it. It just didnt seem to suit such a place as DS9, out her on the borders. Still, take away the annoying enthusiasm and he was quite attractive, in a boyish way.
"Doctor." she returned cordially, taking a space in the lift opposite to him.
"Youve just met Captain Janeway?" he asked.
"Yes." was her short reply.
"Id love to visit her ship. Theyve got the new Emergency Medical Hologram in their sickbay." he continued, "Its been programmed with the experience of hundreds of medical practitioners and..."
"DOCTOR!" Kira interrupted, "Sorry, but here we need real doctors. Bajor is still recoveri..."
At that moment the turbolift lurched and Kira tumbled forwards, straight into Bashirs arms. The lift comm-panel crackled,and then the familiar voice of Chief Miles Obrien piped up...
"Is anyone hurt down there?" he enquired.
"We're fine Chief!" replied Bashir.
"Ok. Ill have you out in ten minutes!" he stated, then signed off.
Kira, still supported by Bashirs arms, looked up into his brown eyes. |
