You lay in bed together for a few minutes, and you start to doze off. Suddenly you are roused from your half-sleeping by a ringing noise. It takes you a few minutes to realise that it's April's mobile.
April sits up and reaches over for her phone. She reads the name on the front. "It's Emma," she says, refering to her best friend. "I thought she was going away for a few days with Mike."
Emma is a gorgeous brunette. She's your ex girlfriend, and is how you met April in the first place. She's now with Mike, but they have a tempestuous reltionship and you're often disturbed by her calling April to complain about Mike's latest defiance. April answers the phone and you lay back, knowing that they are going to be man-hating for the next half hour.
"Hey, Emma, what's up?...Oh God, are you OK?...He's a bastard, you deserve so much better than him...Yeah I know it's the size of a baby's arm, but that's not a reason to stick with him...Oh, don't cry, babe...Look, where are you?...OK, don't go anywhere, I'll come pick you up...Fuck him, don't tell him you've left...OK, I'll be there in an hour...Yes, I'll bring some clothes...OK, bye. And Emma, don't go back to him this time, OK?...OK, see you soon."
As intruiging as the conversation sounds, you know it's better not to ask what's going on, or you end up with all the anger April has at Mike transferred to you. "Gotta go, babe?" you ask.
"Sorry, I really do. My girly needs me. Look, I'll make it up to you. I'll be back in a couple of hours, OK? Stay here, Mum'll make you some lunch."
With that she gets up and leaves. You lay back and listen to her car pull away. Dammit. Still, it's not all bad. You get to spend the next couple of hours staring at Jo's legs. You decide to dress and go and see about that lunch.
You go downstairs and see Jo in the hallway. She's put on a black suit jacket that matches her skirt.
"Hey, . April left you on your own, huh?"
"Looks like it. I know it's a bit rude, but could I possibly ask for something to eat? I missed breakfast this morning, and I'm really hungry."
"Erm, well actually, I'm just about to go out shopping at the mall. You can come with me if you like, I could use a man's opinion. I'll even buy you a burger."
You consider this option. Going shopping with Jo could either be really dull or really, really exciting! On the other hand, If you stay here then it would just be you and Kate in the house for the next couple of hours. |
