.Secret Agent, Sarah Banks | niceguy2002tim | 21

Sarah stood with her hand on the doorknob and watched Brucks walk away. When he was out of her sight she opened the door and stepped into the office. It was beautiful, the walls were covered in oak paneling and floor was covered with plush royal red carpet. At the back of the office was a huge desk. Behind it was a tall-backed leather chair that faced away from her. Sarah’s wide eyes drifted to the side of the room where a smaller scale replica of the complex sat on top of a table. It was incredibly realistic, with all the same trees and other landscape.

Sarah was startled when a voice spoke from behind the office chair. “It’s beautiful, isn’t it?” the voice asked.

Sarah felt her heartbeat stop and almost jump into her throat. She had dreaded and lived for the moment when she’d once again see Jack. The chair turned slowly, revealing a very professionally dressed man. Her eyes observed him as he stood up and began walking toward her. Jack was wearing a pair of gray slacks and a blue dress-shirt; it was open at the top in a casual way. Jack’s hair was neatly jelled and Sarah thought he looked even more handsome than ever. Seeing Jack had pulled her right out of reality, it was a deep breath in her ear that brought her back. Turner was still listening to everything and that suddenly made Sarah feel very wrong. With no second thoughts she removed the tiny earpiece and crushed it under her black high-heels.

With even less thought she jumped into Jacks embrace as they kissed passionately. Her head said no, but the voice of her heart was much louder. She wrapped her arms around Jack and held him tight as their lips pressed together. His kisses melted her soul and again she lost the feel of all reality. They kissed heavily for a couple minutes; both lost in their own daydreams. Jack was the first one to break the kiss, but he didn’t let her go. He looked into her face and into her beautiful green eyes and spoke. To Sarah his voice came from every direction and was all she could hear. “I knew they’d send you,” he said.

Sarah was suddenly scared that Jack would push her away and slap her across the face. She felt like the betrayer rather than the betrayed. She opened her mouth to apologize but Jack placed his finger over her lips and gave a soothing hush sound.

“I am glad they sent you actually.”

Jack was now walking around the 3d model of the Island. He stopped at the bar and asked Sarah what she’d like to drink. Weirdly she responded, “a Martini. Shaken, not stirred.” Jack laughed in response but made the drink anyway.

“I see you’re taking this secret agent thing to the tenth degree,” he said handing her the drink.

“Jack, I…” Sarah tried to speak again. This time Jack hadn’t hushed her, she was unable to finish her sentence. She didn’t know what to say or how to explain to Jack what happened. Without warning her knees buckled and she fell forward. She would have landed on the model if Jack hadn’t been there to catch her. He helped her over to a sofa that matched the chair. The black leather felt warm and comfortable under Sarah. Jack took the drink from her and placed both on a table next to the couch. When he turned back Sarah moved on him. Her mouth came to his to hers. They kissed with the passion of two lovers torn apart long before they were meant to be.

Where does the kiss lead?

          Further down the dark path.
