“Because I'm a kunoichi of Konoha, my mission said... my mission said that I had to... keep you safe and happy” she said, if she was crying or if she had a smile it was impossible to know due to her head resting against the cushion but either way he got on his knees at her side and her eyes turned to him when she felt his hand on her back, soothingly rubbing her. It was definitely a bizarre picture but Kurenai didn't move.
“And what about you? What about what you feel?”

“... yes” her eyes shine and show the battle of emotions going on inside her.
“Did you left anyone in your village?” he asks, wondering in what point of the story she came from, was she still single? Was she seeing Asuma and had to leave him for the mission? He couldn't avoid a certain thrill imagining that she could be cheating on him... of course, he wasn't exactly real but it was still there.
“I... I had someone... I thought we could become closer... but the mission came”
