“Oh, you brilliant woman” you said smiling at the gorgeous redhead at your side, happy that your words have made her face tingle once more into that lovely shade of red.

“Well, it wasn't that spectacular of a puzzle really” she was obviously trying to be modest.

“Doesn't matter, to me you are amazing” her blush intensified alongside her glare.

“I'm pretty sure you are not going to stop until I faint due to too much blod going into my head” for simple answer you shrugged before continuing your story.

“We met Drakken while he was trying to steal a lab... trying the key word, god it was embarrassing, he tripped every single alarm, got his pants on fire and had to be rescued by the police; it was hilarious, but then the boss and I got curious, what was he trying to steal? Well, it seems that he was trying to steal information about a new conductor that he required for one of his giant lasers, it was in a lab close to here, maybe 20 or 30 km to the west”

“So what happened?”

“We investigated a little bit more and found out why it had so much security... the laboratory was only a screen, they were working in a ghost project that could have ended in a new kind of weapon, very high tech, the boss and I found it too dangerous so we stole the conductor, destroyed all the information about it and left before they knew we were even in the state”

“Why would you have done that? If it was going to be used in the military...”

“Oh no, it wasn't going to be used by the military... a submarine was going to throw the missile and thanks to the new conductor and a chip that was being developed at the time, the missile would have flied undetectable... the aim was a small town in South Korea... a CIA director was going to make it seem as if North Korea was starting a war, next thing the CIA director knew was that he was being processed by embellishment and treason”

“What? I remember the case, it was a huge scandal... oh, you devilish man, you couldn't... could you?”

“I plead the fifth, but we celebrated big that night once we freed Drakken and gave him the conductor, he was so happy that he hired us in that instant, the doc was so happy that he practically said yes to everything Sheegs said without thinking”

“But why Drakken? It was obvious you were being heroes”

“Yeah, but what we were supposed to do? If we decided to act as heroes the news would have leaked, it would have lead to a new war, nah, this way was better, the world knew us as villains, why not use it in our advantage?”

“How?”

“Becoming the sword in the darkness, think about it, why work for Drakken when there were dozens of other mad scientists and villains? Because not only Drakken basically payed us a fortune for simply breathing, but because he was not a threat; the guy is a moron, the most he would have done if he conquered the world would probably destroy politicians... and probably bankers too”

“Oh my god! You could work for a villain that will never pose a real threat while at the same time destroy and stop plans that were more dangerous by other parties! And nobody could blame you for doing that because that would mean they will have to make public their involvement in ghost projects and research the government probably wouldn't like the people knowing about them! No wonder you never had sentences that were more than a few days!”

“Remember the nano-tick?”

“The nano-tick... the bastards were making weapons and almost killed my daughter!.. and obviously the project was stopped before the other countries could gain information of what they were doing”

“Have I ever told you how amazing you are?”

“Not in the past few minutes” Anne said smiling finally playing along with me, her sadness being only a figment “but then... why did you decided to stop being a villain? It was obviously working well for you”

“Because I met you”
