The Pirate's Life For Me... | yoyo1342 | 9

“I think surprise and numbers are our best advantages here. We should at least free the crew in the lockup where we just were, and then either head for the armory or try to free the rest of the crew, wherever they are,” Elizabeth says, and though she lacks confidence, she manages to keep her insecurity out of her voice.

The two ladies run back to the cells, pausing just outside of the door.

“You go burst through the door and draw the guards attention, then I’ll sneak up behind him and knock him out,” Elizabeth whispers.

Melody follows her order, quickly putting several yards between herself and the door. Sure enough, the guard reacts, leaping towards her. The two square off, leaving the guards back facing the door, and Elizabeth skulks quietly behind him, wrapping rope around her hand for weight. When she is finally in position, she swings connecting squarely with the back of the guards head, laying him out.

Several of the crew rise in the cells in excitement, and Elizabeth reaches down to the fallen guard to grab the key from his belt. Elizabeth throws the keys to Melody who begins opening cage after cage. In short order, cadets and crew begin to assemble in the front of the brig. Sixteen crew in all, about half of them naked. You knew some, such as Lt. Perriman were capable in a fight, but it was abundantly clear that Leanne and many of the cadets would need sturdy arms to contribute to any effort. Though one and all appear prepared to fight, not a one is armed.

“Melody, we are not going to be able to take the ship at our current numbers. We either have to find and free the rest of the crew or arm ourselves. Lieutenant, you’re the commanding officer, what do you think we should do?”

What does Lieutenant Perriman decide?
