The Wish | dkburrows | 7

Since 'you' just went to left the apartment you realize you can't call in sick to your former employer since that might be where Janine has headed off to. Oh well, they'll call if she didn't call in sick and you can tell them then. But in the meantime what are you supposed to do now?

For the first time you realize you have no idea how Janine spends her days. You'd never really bothered to consider it, and if you had you suppose you just assumed she watched tv, shopped, and answered the occasional 'Help Wanted' ad.

"That's what I can do. I can get her a job. She's always been unable to take initiative, but I've never had that problem. But now that it's me inside her..."

You let the words trail off, partly because you realize you're talking to yourself, and partly because you're busy looking for her purse, and then checking that her wallet's inside of it. You never know with women. They'll have ten thousand purses and God knows where they've put their keys and wallet. Hell, they might have one inside each and every one of them for all you know.

Just as you've tossed the purse over your shoulder, feeling like incredibly awkward about it in the process, you hear a song abruptly start to play from within it. After a moment you realize it's her cell and pull it out, looking at the call display eagerly. Time to find out a little bit more about what your little wife does in the day.

"Hello, who is this?" you say. The call display had said only 'Barry', and you find yourself wondering if Janine had been having an affair.

Who or what is this Barry, and why are they calling your wife?

Whoever he is he wants to know why you're not 'there' yet
