"Hello?" you ask cautiously when you pick up the phone.
A loud sound makes you flinch from the phone and you realize it's the person on the other end letting out a sigh. No matter which body you're in you'd recognize your mom's voice anywhere once she starts to talk. "Oh honey, thank goodness you're up! Did you see the note?"
"Mom? What note?"
"THE note," she insists. "The one I left."
"Mom!" you cry, impatiently. Just like always she's scatterbrained. Kind of like your sister Sue.... Oh, right. You.
"Honestly dear. Haven't you been to the kitchen yet? It's right there on the table. Or fridge. Oh, it's somewhere..."
"Look, I'm on the old phone in the hall, the one with the cord. I can't exactly go looking," you tell her impatiently, emphasizing the words 'cord' and 'old'.
It's an old argument but you've been trying for years to get them to upgrade to a cordless. Better yet, to give you a cell. You and your siblings are the only ones in school without cells. Well, you're the only one without. They got cells for both Garth, when he went to college, and Sue, for actually graduating.
Hey wait a second... YOU're Sue. That means you have a phone! Somewhere....
"Mom! Call me on my cell!" you exclaim, and while she's saying something you hang up. Grinning wide at the thought that not only do you have a gorgeous girl's boy at your disposal but now you finally have that long-dreamt of item. A cell phone.
Speaking of which, you head off to find that pesky cell.
Now if only your mom would listen to your suggestion so you could hear it ring. |
