You're not about to be ordered around by these girls. This is ridiculous! On your knees in front of her? Not going to happen. Without thinking, you turn and run into the woods - you may have just given up your chance to win the game - but the thought of Mary Alice looking down on you smugly as you indulge her orders is too repugnant.
The girls holler angrily as you dart away from them, weaving in and out of trees, into the blackness. They'll never catch you.
A few minutes later you stop in a small clearing to catch your breath. You hear nothing. Nice evasion, you think. Arrogant, you lie down on the cool, inviting grass and stare up at the stars. They are beautiful - and out in absence of ambient light, they are numerous. You watch the stars, letting yourself get lost in thought, and slowly your eyelids dip and you drift off to sleep... |
