Aaralon's Discoveries | Sixth | 25

Camila was certainly interested in him. Those questions about demons may have been a coincidence but they may have been careful probing. Aaralon was also fairly confident the senior illusionist and diviner was flirting with him. Either way she was up to something. Aaralon wasn’t as in control of the situation as he would have liked.

"I’ll go with Carrie,” he announced.

The reaction was immediate but brief. Camila looked disappointed. A frown flickered over her lips before she hid the expression. Carrie looked pleased. Just for a second the other illusionist’s practical clothing of leathers and cloth seemed to be ever so slightly more snugly fitted.

The fact that he could read the reactions of the two wizards surprised Aaralon. They were experts. They knew how to hide these thoughts. There’s no way Carrie would let her illusionary clothes spell ripple for even a second – so why did he see it?

Could there be a connection between him apparently finding the briefing room despite the four mages having it warded, passing the blindfold test and his apparent ability to see some truth or meaning in these illusions. Did he have some innate talent after all? Was this why all four of the mages seemed, to one degree or another, interested in him? The elf twins had wanted to test him in the Tears of the Crying God, after all, whatever that was.

"Very well,” said Carrie, "We’ll waste no more time. Follow.” ... and with that the most senior of the four mages who left the College with you took the leftmost track out of the clearing.

Can Aaralon keep up with Carrie?
