When The Cat's Away | whizzper | 25

Bernie led her boyfriend's virile father up the stairs toward Gary's bedroom where she'd left Gary and Lil sleeping, still sticky and smelling of each other from last night's late reunion.

The two were careful not to make too much noise in case they were still asleep. As they got to the door they heard voices from inside, talking quietly. Hank and Bernie, by silent agreement listen in for a second. Both feeling a bit guilty at the spying, but...

"Why can't I find a nice guy? Why do I always fall for assholes and jerks and douchebags?"

"The thing about assholes and chicks is girls are attracted to they confidence they possess. That and most girls think they can change assholes into nice guys. They never realize that guys that are assholes don't want to be changed. It's my thinking that they are all sociopaths that have no emotions, really, just a great acting ability for a little while to trick girls into thinking they are normal when they aren't."

"Huh...you think?"

"From reading a couple of psychology books, that's my theory anyway. They can't process other peoples feelings or thoughts, the only thing important to them is themselves."

"You...you're not like that are you?" Lil asks, a little apprehensive as if she didn't really want to know.

"From time to time, maybe I am. I don't go to those lengths. It's like with me and Bernie. I really love her, but...but there are times I have a hard time expressing it, you know? So, in certain ways maybe I am." Gary says quietly.

Hank, whose arm was on Bernie's shoulder felt her start at his saying he loved her. He squeezed her shoulder to calm her as they continued to listen in.

"So...how about your friends? Maybe...maybe if...Maybe if I date someone older than me they'll be better for me? You think?"

Hank heard Gary chuckle, "Lil, Peter really loves Sandy so..."

"Oh...well...hey why do you think I'd ask about him?"

"I've seen you go googly eyed at him whenever you are single. Now, he's not a sociopath, and he's not going to do certain things. He will do anything he can to NOT hurt Sandy."

"A...anyone else? How about..."

"I'll think on it Lil. Maybe you're right. But at the same time, I don't know. You seem to want to have fun still, and the couple of guys that I think would be decent to you, and for you, are looking for more than just fun."

"You mean marriage? I'm too young for that now."

"That's exactly what I mean sis. Joe and Corey are good guys, Joe I think is still a virgin to boot. He's from a religious family..."

"I don't mind. Virgins are awesome. No bad habits."

"But he wants marriage. And he's stated that he won't put out, his words, until the wedding night. And he's not one to let a girl go off and get laid so she's satisfied."

"Uh huh...I see. This sucks. I don't think I'm ever going to find someone." Lil said, fighting her words through a sob.

"Hey now, get over here and let me cheer you up." Bernie heard Gary say, gently.

Hank and Bernie looked at each other as the sounds of shifting bed springs came from inside Gary's room. Bernie was going through mixed emotions, Gary and Lil were probably about to have sex in some form or another in the room, and she knew she should be a bit angry at that. But then she had just had another threesome with Gary's parents so she felt she should feel guilty about that. She was ecstatic that she heard Gary say he loved her, but she knew she should be annoyed that he recognized that he didn't say it enough.

Hank on the other hand was just feeling proud that Gary and Lil could have these personal conversations. Some of his friends while growing up barely spoke with their siblings about anything. Now, granted he never figured his kids would be as close as they are, sexually speaking, but there was a big sense of pride in him.

As Lil's sobbing stopped, to be replaced by coos of pleasure, Bernie and Hank were wondering if they should wait a moment and let Gary cheer his sister up, or if they should enter the room and all comfort Lil.

Which do they decide?

          Step in.

          Ask Gary.
