The Necromancer, a mage that acquires the energy they use for their spells by accessing the energy within living things. Usually this is done by ritualistic sacrifice of something alive, up to and including people. There's no gender preference though some of the more powerful members are hundreds of years old and as such look down on women.
Doesn't mean you have to be the bad guy though. A surprising number of cops will pick up a few necromancy tricks. Usually just little spells so that they can use their own life energy or the life energy of criminals for the fuel, but those that do use this trick tend to work together to keep it secret.
